Gary Bottoms, CLU, ChFC

Founder

Gary Bottoms began his insurance career immediately upon graduation from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also holds the Chartered Life Underwriter designation and the Chartered Financial Consultant designation from the American College.

He began what is now Summit Legacy in 1987 and was the first firm in Georgia to be invited to join what is now National Financial Partners which is currently ranked as the 13th largest broker of U S Business, ranked by 2021 brokerage revenue generated by US based clients. He later transitioned to an owner of Lion Street which is an invitation only national network of approximately 175 elite firms and financial professionals assisting high net worth, high income, and business owner clients with sophisticated life and disability insurance needs, along with estate planning solutions.

Professional Involvement

  • A past president of the Atlanta Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. From this organization, he received the Harry I. Davis Award, which is given to one member annually who represents the highest ideals and principles of the financial services profession. Gary is one of only 45 other Atlanta professionals who have achieved this distinction over the years.
  • A member of Finseca, which is an invitation only organization, composed of professionals serving the high-end marketplace. For this group, he has continuously been involved with life insurance industry advocacy in Washington, D.C.
  • A past board member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council and past president of the North Georgia Estate Planning Council.
  • Author of “Getting It Right”, a book about estate planning, life and relationships.

Community Involvement

  • Gary is a Past Chairman of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.
  • Gary has served as the Chairman of Cobb Community Foundation, The Cobb Schools Foundation, the WellStar Foundation, The Center for Family Resources and President of the Rotary Club of Marietta.
  • He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Cobb County Government Employees Pension Plan. He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association and a recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award.
  • He has been involved in numerous other civic, church, and community endeavors and was selected as Marietta Citizen of the Year

Gary and his wife, Melissa, are graduates of Leadership Georgia. They have been married for 48 years and have three children and three grandchildren. They attend First Baptist Church in Marietta.

Lori Chastain

Lori Chastain is a seasoned professional with over 11 years of invaluable experience at our firm. Her expertise lies in curating an exceptional client experience, starting from the intricate process of case design. With an extensive grasp of our resources within the robust Lion Street back office in Austin, Texas, Lori navigates through a wealth of knowledge to craft tailored solutions that precisely match our clients’ needs.

Beyond the design phase, Lori manages the underwriting process, skillfully engaging with multiple carriers to secure the most favorable terms and outcomes. Her dedication ensures that our clients receive the best possible offerings in their policies.

Post-implementation, Lori remains the key point of contact for ongoing service. She tirelessly ensures seamless and top-notch service both before and after policy issue, cementing our commitment to long-term client satisfaction and support.

Greg Morgan

Senior Director

Greg Morgan has spent his career providing tax advice to high net worth individuals and families.  He spent over four decades at Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC, CPA’s and Advisors, serving as a partner at the firm, including a stint as a Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Atlanta office.

At Summit Legacy, Greg takes that experience and unique perspective and applies it to our clients, allowing them to receive a more holistic approach to their planning.

Greg has served as Chairman of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.  He is currently on the Board of Trustees of the WellStar Health System, one of the largest health systems in Georgia, currently serving as its Vice Chair.

Stephen Wrenn

Director

Stephen Wrenn grew up locally in Marietta, GA and is is dedicated to becoming one of the area’s most trusted advisors, bringing his passion and integrity to each client interaction

Despite getting drafted by the Atlanta Braves following his senior year of high school, Stephen opted to attend the University of Georgia. After 3 years at Georgia, he was drafted again – this time by the Houston Astros. Stephen spent the next 5 seasons traveling the country as he played across various minor league levels, including Triple-A, within both the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners organizations.

After transitioning from baseball, Stephen embarked on a career in life and disability insurance, ultimately joining Summit Legacy due to his admiration for their character and commitment to excellence. 

Stephen and his wife, Caroline, reside in Smyrna with their dog, Georgia. They are involved in their local church, The Square, and Stephen enjoys giving back to the community by coaching youth baseball.


Tiffany Hyde

Tiffany Hyde

Senior Vice President, Head of Underwriting | Lion Street

Tiffany Hyde has led Lion Street’s Underwriting Division since 2012, where she provides oversight to underwriting efforts, new firm selection, vendor relationships and strategic initiatives. Her additional areas of expertise include reinsurance staging and negotiations, foreign nationals, complex medical history, advanced case design, product selection and premium finance. Active in the life insurance industry since 1990, Hyde has served in various leadership capacities for prominent companies including U.S. Financial, Mutual of Omaha and Voya. She also brings considerable medical knowledge from her previous career in nursing.

Passionate about continuing education, Tiffany has earned her FALU designation and currently teaches underwriting courses of all levels for hundreds of field office staff across the country. Tiffany participates in several industry groups, serving on the committee of the Texas-Wide Underwriting Conference. She is also a member of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine and a regular contributor on trends and innovations within underwriting and the life insurance industry.

Michael Fontanini

Vice President, Advanced Planning and Design | Lion Street

Michael Fontanini, MT, CFP®, CLU® is Vice President, Advanced Planning and Design with Lion Street. Michael specializes in developing sophisticated life insurance solutions to meet the advanced planning needs of high net worth and business owner clients of Lion Street Firms nationwide and leads a team of five advanced case design consultants. Prior to Lion Street, Michael has worked with several life insurance companies in the areas of personal financial planning, life insurance product development and advanced markets.

Michael has earned a Master of Taxation (MT) Degree and Estate Planning Certificate through the Graduate Tax Program of Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and Villanova School of Business, as well as the designations of Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He is FINRA series 7 and 26 registered, a current member of the Wealth Transfer Committee and Estate Tax Working Group committee for Finseca, a leading industry advocate for public policy on behalf of the financial security profession, and a former member of the Advanced Sales Committee for LIMRA.

David Herrig

Senior Vice President, Firm Development | Lion Street

As Senior Vice President of Firm Development at Lion Street, David Herrig is responsible for selecting new Lion Street Firms and working with Lion Street Firms to help establish a growth plan and develop their practices. Prior to joining Lion Street, David served as Vice President of Sales at Voya Financial in the Independent Life Sales division. During his nine-year tenure with Voya, he regularly exceeded the market targets established for his accounts beyond 100% of goal. David’s earlier roles included leadership positions at Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company and AIG American General. His experience spans more than 30 years of successful sales and marketing results with a notable track record of market development and increased profits.
