What We Do

At Summit Legacy, we are solely focused on assisting our clients with their life, disability and long-term care insurance needs.

That’s it.

We believe that by focusing on this one area, without the distraction of offering other forms of insurance or wealth management services, we are able to provide a professional level of experience and service in this area.

When our clients are facing issues that are complex or of critical importance to them, we work with them to find the appropriate solution so that they can meet their goals.  That may include helping construct a well organized succession plan allowing for the efficient transfer of assets or creating a plan to avoid the pitfalls that can emerge when a client dies too soon (or lives too long), or leaves complexity for heirs.

Who We Are

We are locally-owned with a team consisting of insurance producers who have decades of experience across the financial services industry.  While we are proud Georgians, our reach is truly national, with access to the experts and carefully vetted carriers that can deliver results to our clients. Here’s a look at our team.

Gary Bottoms, Founder

Gary began his insurance career immediately upon graduation from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and he has been helping clients to find solutions to their most complex planning and insurance issues since.

Gary holds the Chartered Life Underwriter designation and the Chartered Financial Consultant designation from the American College.  He is a past president of the Atlanta Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, a past board member of the Atlanta Estate Planning Council, and past president of the North Georgia Estate Planning Council.

As someone who believes strongly in the power of community, Gary stays involved in a number of groups in Marietta and Cobb County, including serving as a Past Chairman of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, the Cobb Community Foundation, the Cobb Schools Foundation, the WellStar Foundation, and the Center for Family Resources as well as past President of the Rotary Club of Marietta.

Q&A with Gary

For protection-oriented life insurance, the internal rate of return on the death benefit is a good measure of value.

Providing help to a family or business within a long-term relationship.

For 25 years I traveled to Chicago each quarter to spend an entire day with a coach because I always want to grow and improve myself.

Greg Morgan, Senior Director

Greg has spent his career providing tax advice to high net worth individuals and families.  He spent over four decades at Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC, CPA’s and Advisors, serving as a partner at the firm, including a stint as a Partner-in-Charge of the firm’s Atlanta office.

Like our Founder Gary Bottoms, Greg also served as Chairman of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.  He is currently on the Board of Trustees of the WellStar Health System, one of the largest health systems in Georgia, currently serving as its Vice Chair.

Stephen Wrenn, Director

Stephen grew up locally in Marietta, GA. Despite getting drafted by the Atlanta Braves following his senior year of high school, Stephen opted to attend the University of Georgia. After 3 years at Georgia, he was drafted again – this time by the Houston Astros. Stephen spent the next 5 seasons traveling the country as he played across various minor league levels, including Triple-A, within both the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners organizations.

After transitioning from baseball, Stephen embarked on a career in life and disability insurance, ultimately joining Summit Legacy due to his admiration for their character and commitment to excellence. At Summit Legacy, Stephen is dedicated to becoming one of the area’s most trusted advisors, bringing his passion and integrity to each client interaction.

Q&A with Stephen

The life insurance conversation invites our clients to think intentionally about their legacy. They are making a choice to prioritize future generations over themselves. I want more people to think of life insurance as a path to finishing their journey well.

I enjoy learning about our client’s journey with family and work. Often, both topics can be complicated, but they are also a source of pride and meaning. As we are invited to understand a client’s life situation, we see what matters most to them. Our hope is to help align our work with their values. Any time we can help a client bring intentionality and meaning into their plan, we have succeeded.

I love competition. My dad played professional baseball, and I followed in his footsteps. My whole life, I have loved playing anything that keeps score! Caroline (my wife) and I are in a pickleball league, I am also in a softball league, and I love to golf. We have a little girl due in March of 2025, and I can’t wait to cheer her on in sports as well.

Lori Chastian, Client Experience Manager

Lori is a seasoned professional with over 12 years of invaluable experience at Summit Legacy. Her expertise lies in curating an exceptional client experience, starting from the intricate process of case design, continuing through her management of the underwriting process, and remaining the key point of contact post-implementation.

She tirelessly ensures seamless and top-notch service both before and after a policy is issued, cementing our commitment to long-term client satisfaction and support.

Q&A with Lori

The peace of mind that having good life insurance can provide a person and their loved ones.

  • Getting to know the client
  • Helping them with questions regarding various aspects of policy application, issue, and service.
  • The satisfaction of knowing that we have used our expertise and unique abilities to help our client determine, upon their death, the financial needs of their loved ones and found the best solution to fulfill those needs.

I love mysteries/whodunits books & movies and use my mad deductive skills to solve the mystery early on in the story. Typically, after a few minutes into a movie, my husband will look over at me and ask if I know what is going to happen next or if I’ve already solved the mystery. I can usually provide the next plot twist or tell him the culprit, if he doesn’t mind a spoiler alert. He is simultaneously impressed and annoyed that I seem to always “know”.
